ABOUT THE SEASON
Janus Theatre’s 26th season based on the theme – A Call to Adventure and Destiny – featuring prominent figures and stories from the past brought to life for today’s audience. The season features:
Men on Boats by Jaclyn Backhaus is the true(ish) history of an 1869 expedition, when John Wesley Powell, his crew, and their journey down the Green River and Colorado River into the Grand Canyon. The play based on the one-armed captain and a crew of insane yet loyal volunteers set out to chart the course of the Colorado River. It’s ten explorers. Four boats. One Grand Canyon – all played by women. The production runs June 5-15.
Life Sucks by Aaron Posner is a brash reworking of Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya. When a group of old friends, ex-lovers, estranged in-laws, and lifelong enemies gather to grapple with life’s thorniest questions—and each other, what could possibly go wrong? Incurably lustful and lonely, hapless, and hopeful, these seven souls collide and stumble their way towards a new understanding that life sucks! Or does it? The production runs August 15-25.
The Revolutionists is a story about four historical women - playwright Olympe de Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, Marie Antoinette, and Haitian rebel Marianne Angelle – set during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. This irreverent, women-powered comedy deals with their struggle during a revelation, and their trip to the guillotine. Running in October 10-20.
